The Chapel at Seaside
Seaside, Florida
Architect: Merrill, Pastor & Colgan
Builder: Breaux Construction
Photography: Brenna Kneiss
The Chapel’s tower is nearly seven stories tall, while its steeply pitched roof, abundant windows, board-and-batten walls, and heart pine floors give it an airy and inviting feel perfect for this little beach community.
“We were honored to be a part of building the Seaside Chapel and still marvel at the simplicity and purity of its architecture,” says Edward San Juan.
Challenges
The greatest challenge was knowing that this project would be a historically significant architectural monument.
This was also the first major project where we had the opportunity to produce components by way of CNC (computer numerical control) routing equipment, which enhances worker safety while increasing the accuracy of items created.
Solution
The success of this project boils down to hard work and a resolute commitment to extreme excellence should perfection not be attainable. Our success with CNC equipment on this project led to the purchase of three additional machines in the years since. Working with the architects to ensure a result that the Town of Seaside would be proud of was a joy for the E. F. San Juan team.
