A private residence located in the heart of Seaside, Florida, posed a challenge for all who worked to make this residence into the stunning work it is today. Thanks to E.F. San Juan, the builders, the architects, and other members involved, this home has become a cherished family legacy, ready to be enjoyed for generations to come.
The stunning curved stairwell in this residence introduced a range of millwork challenges that were essential to overcome for this project’s design. This project showcased a concealed panelized door that led into the powder room, boasting a complex wave-like compound curvature. “The home is accented in these panelized walls with a beautiful concealed panelized door that curves right into the wall, leading into a small bathroom here for the guests. This stairwell is such a special place in this home,” says Eddie San Juan. The hidden door curved in multiple directions and had one side that needed to seamlessly integrate with the adjacent horizontal tongue-and-groove paneling, while the opposite side showcased a distinctive five-panel configuration.
Another unforgettable aspect of the project was the continuous curved stair railing, a testament to E. F. San Juan’s craftsmanship. “The handrail was actually glued up on site on the stair rail here by my father and grandfather,” Eddie says. “Seeing that in place really just brings the design together and brings you into the second story.”
CHALLENGES
The combination of curved walls, windows, and specialized millwork took E. F. San Juan’s capabilities to another level. The seamless integration of a curved door, wall, and staircase, in particular, was a significant challenge, and this project served as a test for attention to detail.
SOLUTION
Each curved element called for a tailored solution in this project. One solution was the curved tongue-and-groove paneling that extends throughout this home. The architect and interior designer envisioned a precise alignment of each panel with the curved stair system’s risers across all the stair tower floors, and the E. F. San Juan team only allowed paneling width to vary by less than 5/1,000 of an inch. This further showcases our craftsmen’s exceptional skill and passion for each project they take on. This project was a remarkable achievement and one of our favorites of all time.
